Keppel DC REIT acquires hyperscale data centre in Greater Tokyo for SGD707 million

Keppel DC REIT and Keppel Ltd have recently made significant strides in expanding their portfolio by entering into agreements with unrelated third-party vendors. They are set to acquire a 100% interest in the newly constructed Tokyo Data Centre 3, located in Inzai City, Greater Tokyo. This state-of-the-art hyperscale facility comes with a hefty price tag of JPY82.1 billion, which is approximately SGD707.0 million.

Notably, the acquisition consideration reflects a strategic move, as it represents a 1.1% discount compared to the asset’s valuation of JPY83.0 billion. This discount indicates a favorable purchasing opportunity for Keppel DC REIT and Keppel Ltd, allowing them to enhance their investment in the growing data center market.

Upon completion of the acquisition, Keppel DC REIT will hold a substantial 98.47% effective interest in the property, while Keppel Ltd will retain the remaining 1.53%. This distribution of ownership underscores Keppel DC REIT’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the data center sector, which is increasingly vital in today’s digital economy.

The Tokyo Data Centre 3 is poised to be a significant asset in Keppel’s portfolio, given the rising demand for data storage and processing capabilities. As businesses continue to digitize their operations, the need for reliable and efficient data centers is more critical than ever. This acquisition not only strengthens Keppel’s position in the market but also aligns with their long-term strategy of investing in high-quality, income-generating assets.

Furthermore, the strategic location of the Tokyo Data Centre 3 in Greater Tokyo enhances its appeal. The region is known for its robust infrastructure and connectivity, making it an ideal hub for data services. By securing a facility in such a prime location, Keppel DC REIT is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for data center services in Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

As the digital landscape evolves, the importance of data centers continues to rise. Companies are increasingly looking for reliable partners to manage their data needs, and Keppel DC REIT’s acquisition of Tokyo Data Centre 3 positions them as a key player in this competitive market. The investment not only reflects confidence in the data center sector but also highlights Keppel’s proactive approach to capturing growth opportunities.
